Balayage is a timeless, low-maintenance colour technique that delivers soft, natural-looking highlights with a bespoke finish. At Cruz Hairworks in Whitley Bay, we specialise in creating beautifully blended balayage that enhances your features, suits your lifestyle, and grows out gracefully between appointments.
What Is Balayage?
Balayage is a freehand colouring technique where lighter pieces are painted onto the hair to create a soft, sun-kissed effect. Unlike traditional foils, balayage isn’t applied right up to the root, giving a more natural, lived-in finish that doesn’t leave harsh regrowth lines.
It can be subtle or bold, warm or cool, depending on your preferences. Whether you're after a soft caramel glow, cool ash blonde, or rich brunette dimension, our team will tailor your balayage to suit your skin tone, hair type, and desired maintenance level.

Who Is This Service For?
Balayage is ideal for women who want a natural, effortless colour result with less frequent upkeep. It works beautifully on medium to long hair and is suitable for all base shades—from blonde and brunette to darker tones.
Many of our clients in Whitley Bay, North Shields, and the surrounding areas choose balayage for its soft grow-out, flattering dimension, and the way it enhances movement and shape in the hair. It’s also a perfect introduction to colour for those who want something subtle and easy to maintain.
What to Expect During Your Appointment
A balayage appointment typically takes between 2.5 and 3.5 hours, depending on your hair length, thickness, and the complexity of the result. Your appointment begins with a personalised consultation to discuss your goals, colour history, and maintenance routine.
Your stylist will apply lightener by hand to selected sections of the hair, allowing for complete control over placement and tone. Once lifted, a toner is applied to perfect the shade and add depth or softness where needed. We finish with a professional shampoo, conditioning treatment, and a full blowdry using GHD tools.
Optional strengthening or gloss treatments can also be added to support shine and condition.
How Often Should You Book?
One of the key benefits of balayage is its longevity. We typically recommend a refresh every 12 to 16 weeks, with a toner and trim in between to maintain your colour and shape.
Looking for soft, lived-in colour with expert application? Book your Balayage appointment at Cruz Hairworks in Whitley Bay—where natural elegance meets professional technique.

The service you get at Cruz is simply first class. My regular stylist is Andrew who is brilliant. However, every stylist in the salon has tended my hair at some time and I have never been disappointed - they really listen to you and always go the extra mile. They are always up to date with the latest techniques etc and you can guarantee an all round great experience. I have recently had a complete change of colour and I love it! I cannot recommend the salon highly enough.
