How to Look After Your Tinted Hair
Getting your hair tinted is a brilliant way to refresh your look, but keeping that colour rich and vibrant does take a little care. At Cruz Hairworks, we want your colour to look its best for as long as possible. I’ve pulled together some simple tips and recommendations to help you maintain your tint between appointments.

Keeping Your Colour Vibrant at Home
Use the right shampoo and conditioner
Coloured hair needs gentle, protective products. I always recommend L'Oréal Professionnel Vitamino Color shampoo and conditioner. They’re designed specifically for tinted hair—keeping your colour bright while leaving your hair smooth and hydrated.
Avoid overwashing
Try to wash your hair no more than two or three times a week. Washing too often can fade your tint faster. If your roots need a refresh in between, a good dry shampoo will do the trick without stripping your colour.
Rinse with cool or lukewarm water
Hot water can open the hair cuticle and cause colour to fade more quickly. Cooler water helps seal the cuticle, locking in shine and colour.
Protect against heat
If you’re using straighteners, curling irons or even a hot brush, always use a heat protectant spray. Heat can be one of the fastest ways to dry out your hair and dull your colour.
Shield your hair from the sun
Sunlight—especially in the summer—can bleach out colour over time. If you’re outdoors a lot, wear a hat or use a UV spray to help preserve your tone.
Keep it moisturised
Tinted hair often needs extra moisture. I recommend L'Oréal Vitamino 10-in-1 spray—a quick way to add hydration, shine and protection in one go. It’s great for daily use and ideal before blow-drying.
Salon Services to Support Your Colour
Between full colour appointments, a gloss toner can help maintain depth and shine, especially if your tint is starting to fade or lose vibrancy.
Another great option is the L'Oréal Metal Detox Treatment, which helps remove metals and impurities that can interfere with colour and cause dullness. These are both available in salon and are a great way to extend the life of your tint.
How Often Should You Top Up Your Tint?
As a general rule, I suggest booking your tint every 4 to 6 weeks. This keeps your roots tidy and your overall colour looking even and fresh. Waiting too long often means more noticeable regrowth and a longer service next time.
